meal.

Her only pleasure came when she got into the car on the way home and felt some real heat on her poor cold feet.

That was the end of that, and she decided you could go without her the next time. She would be busy!

Then the kids came along and she no longer had to make excuses. She really was busy.

I guess out of the nearly 20 years I’ve been married, my wife has spent about two years alone or with the kids for company, while I’ve been away on hunting trips.

While I’ve traveled to Alaska, Idaho, Colorado, Canada, Maine, Wyoming, Montana, Utah, Maryland, West Virginia and many, many weeks and weekends here in Virginia, she’s traveled to the PTA and A&P and the 7-Eleven.

Wife, mother, butcher, cook, washwoman, valet, lover, friend, companion . . . maybe much, much more.

A hunter’s wife is a very special breed of lady.

The next time you go on a oneday trip, just try to do it all without her. Bet you can’t!
