Exercise for life
Good health is our goal
Last spring Culpeper Memorial Hospital installed a Fitness Trail on the hospital grounds. Beginning near a hospital parking lot, the trail is a convenient one-mile course with four exercise stations at quarter-mile intervals.
Open 24 hours a day to the public, the fitness course can be enjoyed by casual strollers and avid runners. All exercises may be performed at levels from beginner to expert.
Constructed and maintained by the hospital, the clusters were purchased with $2000 donations from the Mid-Day Lions and the Rotary Club. The course is a gift to the community from these organizations in recognition of the importance of exercise in maintaining a healthy body.
The stations are designed with exercises progressing from warm-up stretches to toning and strengthening exercises and, finally, a cool-down when the exerciser returns to the first station. Instructions and pulse charts are printed on signs at each stop.
The course begins on Laurel Street near the parking lot at the rear of the hospital. The route proceeds east along Laurel Street to Redbud Street where the second station is located in front of the hospital. From there, the course continues along Sunset Lane to the third cluster. After the fourth stop on the back lawn of the hospital, the exerciser returns to the first station to complete the course. The hospital’s expanding role in the health of the community is explained by Bill Gravely, President, “Culpeper Memorial Hospital wants to offer ways to improve and maintain health along with providing acute care services. We hope many people will enjoy the beauty and convenience of the Fitness Trail.”
