Along that line, it is possible that Tuesday s results may force Virginia Republicans, like their Democratic counterparts, to seek a more moderate course and to steer clear of methods and politicians linked to the era of massive resistance to racial integration in the state. The Virginia electorate is becoming more suburban and urban, meaning voters are more diverse and more appreciative of diversity.
These are indeed interesting times in Virginia politics. The state can claim a vigorous two-party sytem and it can claim voters willing to try something new.
Call it New South politics. But, whatever one calls it, the situation will draw considerable national attention to Virginia politics for the first time in rriany years.
