Cold and wet, the Gorfeins walked to a neighbor’s house. Rescue personnel from the Washington Fire Department arrived and took the Gorfeins to another neighbor’s house across the river. Their neighbors drove them as far as possible, and then the Gorfeins walked through the woods to their home.
“It was a scary 30 minutes, and we were lucky,” Gorfein said. “We might have colds, but we weren’t hurt. Our neighbors and the rescue people were wonderful.”
