gency fund has been established and qualifying households may receive up to $400 beyond the ftiel allotment.

Anyone can apply at the Social Services office on Main Street in Washington, or those wishing to apply can call the office at 675-3326 and have an application sent to them by mail.

Additionally, $4.9 million of the grant will go to the Virginia Weatherization Program to weatherize homes of low-income families, a program designed to improve long-term savings on heating costs.

In the program, fuel bills are submitted to the household’s local service agency, in this case in the Washington office. In most cases, the payments are made directly to the ftiel vendor. Each household will be notified by the state of all payments made to a fuel vendor on behalf of the household.

Last year, 113,553 households were included in the program. The average fuel assistance grant was $326.
