John F. Kennedy and running
mate Lyndon B. Johnson swept Rappahannock County in the election for the offices of president and vice president, but the state of Virginia voted for the Republican ticket of Richard Nixon and Henry Cabot Lodge.
The Kennedy-Johnson ticket captured 543 votes in the county to the Republican’s 426, and won in five of the county’s six districts. Voters in the Hawthorne District voted for Nixon, 47-30. It is the third time in a row Virginia had cast a majority of its votes for the Republicans.
WRVA radio, Richmond, will pay tribute to Rappahannock County Tuesday as part of the station’s 35th anniversary. The station is saluting 35 counties in its listening area as part of the celebration.
The Rappahannock Hunt Club met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Muth of Woodville, to open the 1960-61 hunt season.
A total of 43 persons made the trip to Washington, D.C. to see “Ben Hur,” a trip sponsored by Chi Sigma.
Mrs. Julia Boddie was the local delegate to the 79th annual session of the Virginia Teaphers Association Convention. Rev. Martin Luther King of Alabama closed the Friday session with an address. Mrs. Boddie represented the Rappahannock County Teachers Association
