A good move
The Rappahannock County Board of Supervisors this week made a thoughtful and common-sense move by scheduling a pair of informal work sessions to discuss the proposed zoning ordinance.
The planning commission and Richard McNear, the Fauquier County planner who is credited with writing the proposal, are also to be invited.
We couldn’t be more in agreement with that course of action.
Having heard the arguments of those directly affected by such legislation — the people and taxpayers — and having been given an opportunity to ask specific questions about the ordinance to the most knowledgeable source —the man who wrote the proposal — Supervisors have set themselves up for a well-informed decision when it comes time to vote on a new zoning ordinance.
The mechanisms to a better understanding of a most complex document are in place. We hope they are used to their fullest.
