books read. For the eight-week period children are encouraged to read as many books as possible. A list is kept of the books read and the child is given a sticker when a designated number of books are read in a particular area. This year’s categories include mystery, real life, nature, long ag°> giggle, other worlds, adventure and hobbies. The children also receive games and puzzle worksheets to work on or color.
Miss Dodson was surprised that children had seemed to enjoy books from all categories. “I had thought that everybody would want to read from just one area but they seem to be really interested in all the areas. Having them read from various categories helps to encourage children to broaden their outlook.”
