George H. Gilliam, a former chairman of the 7th Congressional District Democratic Committee, will address the monthly breakfast of the Democratic Legislative District July 19 at 9:30 a.m. at the Holiday Inn in Culpeper.
Mr. Gilliam was the Democratic candidate for Congress in 1974 from Virginia’s 7th Congressional District, receiving 47.25 percent of the vote against incumbent Republican J. Kenneth Robinson. He served on the Charlottesville City Counsel from 1972 to 1976. From 1980 to 1983 he was chairman of the 7th Congressional District Democratic Committee where he served on the Steering Committee and the Finance Council of Virginia Democratic Party. He was chairman of the 1982 Jefferson-Jackson Day Dinner.
During the Robb administration he served as chairman of the State Board of Community Colleges, the governing body for Virginia’s 23 community colleges. Governor Gerald L. Baliles recently appointed him as Virginia’s representative on the Education Commission of the States. He and the Governor will represent Virginia at the meeting of the Commission to be held at San Diego during the week of July 21.
Mr. Gilliam is currently a member of the law firm of Paxson, Smith, Gilliam and Scott, P.C. He is a graduate of Columbia University and the ( University Law School. He and his r wife, Page, who is an attorney and x real estate developer, live in Albemarle County with his daughters, Louise, a junior at Sweet Briar College, Carter, president of the Honor Society at Charlottesville High School, and Caroline, bom November 26, 1985.
The Legislative District breakfast is open to the public. It is a cooperative effort of the Democratic Committees of the counties of RapI pahannock, Culpeper, Greene, Madison and Orange.
