ii a sneep grower applies ror an incentive payment and the sales document indicates that the wool or mohair was sold to a person or entity who does not purchase through normal trade channels, or the wool was sold to a hobby crafter or hand spinner, ASCS will consider the value added to the wool or mohair sold, to meet the standards of the person or entity who bought it.
“We will not make an incentive payment to a producer for an amount greater than four times the national average market price received by all producers for the year in which the payment was made,” the ASCS official said.
The 1985 national average market price received by producers was 63.3 cents per pound for shorn wool, and $3.45 per pound for mohair.
TTie ASCS official said if sheep producers receive more than four times the national average market price for wool or mohair, the incentive payments will not be paid on any amount the seller received exceeding four times the average market price for the year in which payment is being made.
For further clarification on bona fide wool and mohair sales, sheep producers may contact the local ASCS office.
All programs administered by ASCS are, by law, open to eligible producers regardless of race, religion, sex, color, national origin, or handicap.
