Before going to Acadia, Wrye served as assistant superintendent of Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, and as acting superintendent of Harpers Ferry National Historical Park in West Virginia.
Previously, he was regional chief of maintenance for the National Capital Region in Washington, D.C., from 1974 to 1977 after serving as superintendent of Prince William Forest Park in northern Virginia. He joined the National Park Service in 1961, progressing through maintenance positions at Greenbelt Park and the Baltimore-Washington Parkway in Maryland.
