Spellman scholarship
Lord Fairfax Community College Educational Foundation announces the first recipient of the Ranee Lee Spellman Memorial Scholarship is Phillip Wayne Taylor of Edinburg. The memorial fund to honor the late foreman of Points of View farm in Flint Hill who died on November 9, 1982, was established by Spellman’s employer and farm owner, Patricia Saltonstall, to encourage the development and recognition of farming skills and support services.
Phillip Taylor, a 1986 graduate of Central High School, plans to enroll in a transfer program at Lord Fairfax Community College this fall and then continue his education to achieve his goal of becoming an agriculture instructor. While at Central, Phillip was active in varsity baseball and the Future Farmers of America program. During his five years as a member of the FFA he has held several offices including chapter president and Federation vice-president. He was also an active participant in the FFA state poultry, dairy, and farm business contests.
Phillip will receive a $1,500 scholarship for the 1986-87 academic year which covers all tuition, books and fees for three quarters of full-time attendance at Lord Fairfax Community College.
