Bloodmobile
in Warrenton
The Red Cross Bloodmobile will be at the parish hall of the Warrenton United Methodist Church on Thursday, November 20 between the hours of noon and 6. p.m. The church is on Church Street, just off Broadview Avenue.
The goal for this blood drive is 90 units (pints) and George Borjes, the Fauquier Chapter’s blood service chairman, is optimistic because recent Bloodmobiles have been exceeding the quota. Tlutt was true especially the previOTs time the Bloodmobile was at the Methodist Church hall. In September donations were 14 units above the goal. And, two weeks ago, the students of Fauquier High School contributed 97 units against a goal of 85.
For several years, the Fauquier and Rappahannock communities have contributed less blood than the quota assigned to this area by the Red Cross Washington Region. This year, however, Boijes points out, the area’s citizens are more responsive to appeals for blood. The Fauquier Chapter’s blood collections are more than 100 units above the amount at the same time last year.
The better response does not decrease the need, though, Boijes says.
With health authorities warning about the potential increase in the incidences of flu this winter, it is imperative that the Red Cross build up its reserves of blood, he says. Although any healthy person more than 17 years old may be a blood donor, anyone with a cold or flu must be deferred. Accordingly, blood donations sometimes decline during the winter months.
