In March of 1985, I asked Hampton Supervisor Clarence Baldwin to put the question of deer damage to commercial orchards on the agenda of the Board of Supervisors. At an ensuing meeting of the board, several commercial fruit growers present were asked to describe their problems in growing new plantings in the face of this problem.
It was too late to get any recommendations before the State Game Commission, since that group had completed its work on setting hunter game limits for the next two years. Hence, Mr. Gilkey stated that I should remind the board of these matters the next time around, which is now.
