WHO GOES TO CLOSING?
If you’ve never purchased a home, you may be interested to know who will be at the closing. The proceeding will normally be conducted by the attorney representing the lending institution at a place of his convenience. Also in company will be the REALTOR who has handled the negotiations up to this point. Both the seller and buyer will have their representing attorneys if they have retained diem for this purpose.
It is a good idea for the buyer to have his spouse at the closing if he is married. The bank taking the mortgage may want both husband and wife to sign the deed and the mortgage note even though the buyer may be putting it through in his name only.
The seller does not have to be at the closing. He may sign his deed in advance and arrange to be represented.
It should be noted here that the buyer is expected to pay the difference between the selling price and the mortgage down payment with a bank check, certified check or cash.
