Expressing disappointment over the superintendent’s rejection of the RCEA proposal for a 13 percent pay increase, she offered the board members a revised salary scale that applies a 10 percent raise to the base and adjusts the higher steps for experienced teachers.
High school math teacher Helen LaClava urged the board to “consider other than the absolute minimum” to qualify for the state’s incentive aid. She challenged the superintendent’s contention that his proposed salary schedule gives a 10 percent increase to base pay. “Without a calculator, I can tell you what 10 percent of $14,912 is and I resent reading 10 percent over there (in the column for percentage increase from the current year).
