“The time has come for Congress to adopt a proposal along the lines of our Health Care Savings Account legislation,” said Virginia Seventh District Congressman D. French Slaughter Jr., who was joined at a press conference by Representatives Phil Crane (R-IL) and David Dreier (R-CA) in the U.S. Capitol Building.
“The President reiterated one of his top domestic policy goals in his State of the Union address: to provide protection for the elderly against the costs associated with catastrophic illness. The recommendations in the report that resulted from the President’s mandate deserve serious consideration by the Congress,” Mr. Slaughter said in his speech.
“However, the concerns of the elderly with regard to health care do not begin and end with costs associated with a catastrophic illness. On the contrary, if we step back and look into the future, we see other health care issues which must be quickly taken care of.”
