dean-up effort. Everyone who pitches in will also receive a silkscreened T-Shirt. ’The Virginia Department of Transportation will also provide trashbags and reflective vests for the volunteers to wear, and will also pick up the filled trashbags from the cleanup sites.
David Chuse, president of the Rappahannock League for Environmental Protection, is serving, along with Helen Holschuh, as a coordinator for the RALLY effort. He said that the March 19 meeting is important, not only to plan the dean-up day, but to develop a plan for activities in the future.
Mr. Chuse urged all groups who have an interest in keeping Rappahannock beautiful and Utter-free to send a representative to the organizational meeting.
“This day,” Mr. Chuse said, “to be successful, ought to be more than just a dean-up day. No one thinks that the solution here is for some people to be constantly mopping up after others. We want to develop activities that start to get at the difficult point of why people Utter, and what can be done to change those patterns. If successful, I think youll be changing a lot more than just Uttering habits.”
Both emphasized that for RALLY to be successful, every resident of Rappahannock must join in the effort. Among their suggestions were informing Mr. McCarthy’s office of particularly badly Uttered sections of roads, the location of Ulegal dump sites, and any abandoned automobiles which RALLY might assist in having removed.
