One of the finest expressions of human concern is the unselfish act that provides assistance to the other fellow. Just such a motive is reflected in the gift of a valuable piece of Rappahannock real estate presented to the Amissville Ruritan Club a few years ago.
Captain Luther Stuart, United i States Navy (Retired), was an ; Amissville resident with a heart-felt interest in the development of youth j and the civic affairs of the county. Aware of the kindred objectives held by Ruritan National, which focuses on community needs and cooperation with other service groups with similar goals, plans were arranged for Mrs. Stuart to carry out Capt. Stuart’s wishes after his death.
On Sept. 13, 1983, in a meeting with Mrs. Stuart, Mrs. John Early, attorney Sharon Luke annd Ruritan members Louis Jenkins and Nelson Burner, the formal presentation was offered. Capt. Stuart’s plan called for the subdivision of the Stuart property on Rt. 211. Of the 11.75 acres in the tract, 8.66 were to be given the the Amissville Ruritans - the other 3.1 acres would remain with the Stuart residence.
An important provision of the entire transaction was the understanding that the. Amissville Little League was to eryoy full access to and use of the ball field on the property.
