Despite having to run this racewithin-a-race, I Chase the Clouds had enough left at race’s end to finish second, eight lengths behind the tough mare Tougher Still who ran a picture perfect race.
Tougher Still is a 5-year-old mare owned, ridden, and trained by George Lee who hunts with the home hunt. The native Englishman has owned the mare for the last year and was very pleased with her performance, although he felt he himself could have been fitter.
"Part of the reason that we did so well is that the mare turns so well. When she starts to roll, she just goes, and Donny couldn’t catch her. I thought I was pretty fit until we had to finish this course,” Mr. Lee said.
The second division of the open timber was won by I Chase the Clouds’ nemesis from last week, Tingle’s Image. Tingle’s Image took over the lead from Demy’s Shali midway through the 2Vz miles, finishing 6 lengths ahead of his nearest competitor.
