Since its inception five years and ten million pounds ago, Blue Ridge Area Food Bank has worked to pursue its goal of reducing food waste and feeding the needy. Growth has been rapid for the non-profit organization which serves 23 counties and nine major cities in north central Virginia. In order to meet the demand and to effectively serve its assigned area, the organization has established three branch distribution centers in addition to the central warehouse in Staunton. These include: Lord Fairfax Food Bank in Winchester; Thomas Jefferson Food Bank, Charlottesville; and Lynchburg Area Food Bank, Lynchburg.
More than 600 area churches, missions, the Salvation Army, day care centers, homes and other groups who provide food to needy individuals and families are served by the Food Bank.
