The Virginia Herb Growers and Marketers Association, a new state association, has been organized recently and is active in Virginia. Membership is open to all persons who grow, sell or market herbs or any product using herbs.
The purpose of the association is to educate and assist with information anyone operating an herb business and to create more public awareness of the pleasure and advantage of using herbs. Plans for the future include providing lecturers and organizing exhibitions.
Elected officers for 1987 are: Peggy Alexander, president, Avon Grove Herbs, Bremo Bluff; vice president, Maureen Messick, La Dama Maya Herb Farm, Luray; secretary, Kathy Chain, The Herbs of Happy Hill, Chester; treasurer, Karen Lowe, Lowlands Farm, Middleburg.
Directors are Cheri Woodard, Faith Mountain Herbs, Sperryville; Dennis Whetzel, Brot and Rosen Herbary, Harrisonburg, and James Elmore, Woodbine Herbs, Charlottesville.
Editor of the quarterly newsletter, Virginia Thymes, is Betty Parker Hayes, Stanardsville.
