The movie Children of a Leaser God will be playing at the Gay Street Theatre on Saturday, May 16 and Sunday, May 117at 7:30 p.m. The movie stars William Hurt and Marlee Matlin. William Hurt gives another amazing performance in this thoughtful and touching adaptation of the Tony Award-winning play. Hurt is an unorthodox teacher whose new assignment at a remote school for the deaf involves hime in a complicated affair. Hearing-impaired actress Marlee Matlin, winner of the Best Actress Oscar for her role, makes her debut as the mysterious woman content to live in her own silent world. Children of a Leaser God is an extraordinarily powerful and unusual love story that explores the barriers people face in communicating their deepest emotions. The movie is rated R. Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for children.

Historical Society meeting

The Rappahannock Historical Society will hold its annual meeting on Friday, May 15 at 7:30 p.m. at the Society’s building on Gay St. in Washington. Officers will be elected for the coming year and Wm. H. Lyne will speak on the history of apples in Rappahannock County. Rappahannock County apples became popular after C. W. Wood sent a bushel of apples to England to the Queen, after that apples were sent to England for years. The public is invited and refreshments will be served.
