The two judges, both college professors, gave the choir a superior rating. They were quite impressed with the attitude, enthusiasm, and appearance of the choir. “The members were attired in their new outfits which we were able to purchase with the Citrus sale money,” Mrs. Foxx said.
A certificate was awarded to the choir and they are awaiting the arrival of a plaque indicating a superior performance.
Several band and choir members performed in the high school’s musical, Bye Bye Birdie. Lead roles were filled by Lee Baines, Leslie Nichols, David Fisher, and Angela Keys. Beiyi Roy and DiDi Salmon held supporting roles.
Participants in the Lion's, Club Bland Music Contest were: Instrumental: David Fisher, DiDi Salmon, and Leslie Nichols. Vocal: Doretha Butler and Nicole Frye. Leslie went on to the regional competition and placed third.
