Older Virginians who wish to participate in electing delegates to the 1987 Silver-Haired Legislature must vote by Friday, May 15.
All Virginians aged 60 or older are eligible to vote for one or more delegates to represent their county or city* of residence. Ballots are available to prospective voters through the Area Agencies on Aging.
Elected delegates will come to Richmond August 3 through 5 to participate in a model general assembly for senior citizens. The 1987 session of the Virginia Silver-Haired Legislature will celebrate the first Virginia House of Burgesses and the 200th anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution.
Participants will attend committee meetings, debate issues of critical importance to older Virginians, and pass legislation which will be presented to the Governor, the General Assembly, the public, and the news media.
The Virginia Department for the Aging is coordinating the 1987 session with the assistance of the area agencies on aging, the Governor’s Advisory Board on Aging, the Virginia Department of Social Services, and other human resources agencies in the Commonwealth.
