Fifty-six percent of Virginia voters want the speed limit on rural interstates raised to 65 mph, according to a recent statewide poll.
Strongest support for the change came from the state’s rural areas. In the Shenandoah region, 60 percent of the respondents favored raising the speed limit. Only 50 percent of those polled in Northern Virginia favored a change.
Mason-Dixon Opinion Research Inc. of Columbia, Md., conducted the telephone poll from April 25-30. It has a 3.5 percent margin of error.
At least one voter from each county in the Commonwealth was interviewed. The sample also reflected an accurate proportion of men and women (50 percent each) and of whites and blacks (81 percent and 18 percent, respectively).
