Help offered
for smokers
Face it: cigarette smoking is fast becoming socially unacceptable. Two-thirds of all adults today don’t smoke and increasingly are asserting their rights to breathe clean, smoke-free air at work, restaurants and in the home. So perhaps now— more than ever before—it makes sense to quit and kick the habit for good, suggested a spokesman for the American Lung Association.
To help those who are ready to become successful nonsmokers, the American Lung Association of Northern Virginia is conducting a Stop Smoking Clinic from 7 to 9 p.m. on August 11,13,17 and 19 at Hammond Junior High School Auditorium, 4646 Seminary Road in Alexandria.
Staffed by a health educator and several ALANV volunteers who are ex-smokers, the Stop Smoking Clinic program uses a positive, behavior change approach that teaches participants how to quit smoking. A fee of $20 is required.
To pre-register, call the American Lung Association of Northern Virginia, (703) 591-4131 in Fairfax.
