Virginia Attorney General Mary Sue Terry recently urged consumers to use caution before deciding to purchase a “package-plan” type vacation.

“Wanderlust affects most of us at this time of the year,” Mrs. Terry said. “The days are long and pleasant, the children are out of school, and we long for new sights and sounds.

“Not by coincidence, we are bombarded by advertisements for vacation transportation and lodging at this time of the year. Airlines and cruise companies, resorts, hotels, even entire cities, states and countries are competing for our travel dollars.

“Most are completely legitimate. But it is important to apply the same common-sense approach to vacation purchases that we do when making other large outlays of money.
