Ms. Marshall also has a treat for parents and friends who have almost forgotten that Rappahannock’s shining almost-adults were ever any other way. The inaugurator of the public schools’ gifted and talented programs, she photographed some of the best and the brightest in 1981 when they were gawky teenagers just entering adolescence. She has framed the old pictures side-by-side with 1987 editions, giving graphic evidence of the growth, maturity, beauty and stature these young people have attained.

Among the images of children are three by a near child, 17-year-old Nathan Homer of Fredericksburg.
