troopers patrolled 95,336 miles of highways from 6 p.m. Thursday, July 2, to midnight, Sunday, July 5. They assisted 2,304 stranded or otherwise distressed motorists and arrested or issued summonses to 3,927.

Operation C.A.R.E. is a statesponsored national program designed to reduce motor vehicle crashes, injuries and fatalities during major holiday weekends. Virginia’s involvement in the program includes increasing the number of troopers patrolling certain sections of interstate, primary and secondary roads.
