With its regular monthly exhibits, the gallery challenges local artists to stretch themselves, and that challenge is met impressively by Pat Mullin. In the unlikely medium of stained glass, she has captured a child s amazement at the world’s newness with “Shannon in Wonder.” And her portrait of a fetus etched in a stained glass prism - a tribute to life, birth and midwife Cher Orenic - is haunting and disturbing. It evokes the range of reactions stirred by the sight of a baby being bom: some who see it are awed by the beauty, others put off by the rawness.
Other artists stretch almost as far.
Painter Robin Purnell continues to demonstrate a mastery of color and form, this time with an oil portrait of a young woman whose strong face epitomizes the strengths of country life.
