Highway deaths

RICHMOND—At least 11 persons were killed on Virginia’s highways during the July 4 weekend, according to preliminary reports compiled by the Virginia State Police. This figure compares with 24 deaths for the three-day July 4 period in 1966.
Two of those killed were pedestrians, seven were drivers and two were passengers. One of the drivers was operating a moped. Of the 11 fa- • talities, three were known to be alcohol-related and only one person killed in a vehicle was known to be wearing a seatbelt.
