Witli reference to your July 9 article, one thing gypsy moths do not do is “strip whole forests of trees in a matter of days.” As the article points out, gypsy moths have long been established in the States north - of us. Yet,. I can personally vouch that there were thousands of acres of healthy forest up that way as recently as a month ago.

From our house in northern Rappahannock, vast areas on the Blue Ridge could be seen to be defoliated by mid-June. Today they are greening up again. Next year, we may have defoliation in our own woods —
