One only has to look as far as D. C.’s Virginia suburbs to see the effects of allowing rapid growth without making provisions for the services the growth will require. Only now are local governments realizing that, in many cases, developers have left them to pick up the tab for the necessary improvements to roads and services.
Not only would the “Washington Bypass” be an aesthetic blight upon our beautiful countryside, it would likely leave residents and local governments reeling fropi the effects of rapid growth — and the attendant increase in taxes.
We urge Mrs. Watts to go slow, study carefully—and ultimately—to reconsider the proposed bypass. In our opinion, it sounds like a raw deal for Rappahannock County, as well as our neighbors in the Piedmont.
