Gypsy moth resolution passed
"The moths are here,” said Mayor Morehouse. The leaves “are growing back now, but they defoliated hundreds and hundreds of acres. Leaves are one of the county’s largest draws - the tourists are not going to come if the county looks like parts of Vermont. They are stonedead.”
“It would ruin this town,” Mr. Wickens agreed.
“I’ve driven through parts of Pennsylvania where it looks like winter in June,” added Mr. Fisher.
“The town should consent to spraying,” Mr. Wickens suggested, referring to a letter received from Diane Bruce informing council of discussions of county participation in an “environmentally safe” spray program next vear.
