Gospel sing workshop
The RAAC Artists’ Forum offers ft unique opportunity for every* one with a secret longing to be a performing artist: "Gospel for Everyone.”
Ethel Caffie-Auatin, known today as West Virginia’s finest gospel singer, will Be in Rappahannock County Sept. 18 to conduct a workshop, including six hours of instruction and concluding with a performance in which the group will join her in concert. No previous experience is necessary.
Ms. Caffie-Auatin will meet with a group of amateur singers Friday, Sept. 18, from 7 to 10 p.m. at Promise Land Baptist Church (one mile down Rt. 622 off Rt. 211), beginning with a potluck supper. Cost is $8 per person. Rehearsal will be held from 10 to 4 on Saturday, culminating with a concert Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Gay Street Theatre.
Ms. Caffie-Austin is director of a choir in West Virginia whose reputation extends across the East Coast. She is known for the joy she takes in teaching and in her ability to create a gospel sound in a few hours of work with a group of amateurs, Paul Reisler, of Trapezoid, says of Ethel: "She makes us remember that somewhere deep down we all loiow how to sing.”
