His paintings capture the essence of the person - and the animal.
Some artists are talented portrait painters, with an eye for the subtle features, the nuances which make a portrait a record of the personality as well as the person. Others are talented animal painters, able to commit to canvas the details which distinguish a businessman’s prized thoroughbred from a young girl’s cherished pleasure pony.
None, except Scott Griswold, has successfully combined the two. This unique talent has led him across the country and around the world to paint the famous, the not so famous, and their children.
His clients have included Paul Newman, whose portrait was done not with horses, but with his race car. Mr. Newman was so taken with the painting that his wife Joanne Woodward, an avid horsewoman, commissioned Mr. Griswold to do her portrait with her favorite riding horse.
