“Control of Virginia air pollution sources is heavily dependent on national standards and criteria established to avoid economic disadadvantage to Virginia industry and to provide practical solutions to interstate air problems,” said Carl C. Boo berg, coalition steering committee member and executive director of the American Lung Associaton of Virginia.
“The most important issue in air pollution control is the health of the public. Air pollution emissions seriously affect the young, the elderly and those suffering from respiratory disease,” Booberg said.
“For every man, woman and child in our country, there’s one ton of polluted air. Health care costs attributable to outdoor air pollution alone amount to between $5 billion and $40 billion annually with the closest estimate some $16 billion.”
‘The Coalition recognizes that Senator Warner has a major opportunity to shape air quality for Virginia and the nation,” according to Booberg. “We are letting him know our concerns on behalf of all Virginians.”
