man, was a tremendous help in the areas of discipline and control (among others), but as she will admit, she was not trained as a teacher. For any. sort of individualized instruction (especially with limited equipment), I would often have to take a small group (12-16) up on the stage while she supervised the remainder of the group in some other activity. This is not an ideal situation.
It is my feeling that if the high school can employ two PE teachers for approximately 200 students, then RCES could justify employing two PE teachers for 600 students.
In response to the comments in the Sept. 3 issue of The Rappahannock News I would like to add these feelings.
I feel that Dr. Gangel’s decision to cut back the PE schedule is a personal victory for quality vs. quantity. My purpose at RCES is not to give the classroom teachers a break. If anyone thinks that I am going to have an easy time this year, they are welcome to look at my schedule. It is more demanding than ever.
