Later in the day, after Dr. Gangel had made a trip around the county checking the situation in lowlying areas and saw that water was rapidly rising, schools were dismissed early. He said that the decision was made to avoid the risk of buses encountering high water later in the day as the students were ferried home.
Dr. Gangel said that his decision was based not only on his first-hand assessment in driving around the county, but also on the fact that several neighboring school districts had announced early dismissal, and that the Weather Service was forecasting the precipitation to continue throughout the day. He said that he felt it was the “prudent” thing to do.
The girls’ basketball game scheduled Tuesday evening was cancelled.
As Wednesday dawned clear and sunny, with blue skies bringing the promise of relief fror Gangel said he hoped year would be back track.
