The American Heart’s Food Festival, taking place in supermarkets and restaurants across Virginia Sept. 13-19, will emphasize the importance of lowering cholesterol in your diet while still enjoying foods such as red meat, dairy products, eggs, dried beans and legumes, fish and seafood, oils and margarines, poultry, wheat and grain products, and fruits and vegetables. Cholesterol is a fat-like substance found among the fats in the blood and is a major risk factor in cardiovascular diseases and stroke.
