• voted unanimously to contribute $400 to the Foothills Travel Association, organized under the Planning District’s auspices to promote tourism in the five-county area of Rappahannock, Madison, Orange, Fauquier and Culpeper. The group, represented at Wednesday’s meeting by Madison County Supervisor Polly Powell, has recently produced a brochure highlighting the attractions of the five counties; 60,000 copies are being distributed by the Virginia Travel Council at the state’s information centers and to travel agents and other tourism-related businesses and organizations. The Foothills Travel Association will also launch a major membership drive this fall. HI feel this is just a small amount of money,” said Supervisor A1 Henry, adding that an increase in tourist business “will be of benefit to a substantial number of people in Rappahannock County.
