Ash disposal is “an economic rather than an environmental issue,” she maintained. “I think it can be managed safely but it may cost you more money (if it’s classified as a hazardous waste).” Ms. Bailey sees recycling as a more viable statewide solution to part of the solid waste problem. But the biggest problem here is with public acceptance, she noted.
Many think of recycling as an ecological term left over from the 1960s - “peace, love and recycling” - and just about as out-of-date as love beads and peace signs, Ms. Bailey said. In
