the State Police, and before a lottery ticket vendor gets a license he must pass a background screening. Only people with good standing in the business community will be selling lottery tickets.
The tradition of a lottery in Virginia runs deep. It goes back to the founding of Jamestown which was financed by a lottery. Lotteries helped establish the College of William and Mary and many other landmarks in the Commonwealth. George Washington is known to have bought one of the first tickets in a Washington, D.C., lottery. Thomas Jefferson said, “A lottery is a wonderful thing; it lays taxati&n only on the willing.”
A lottery will be good for Virginia and I encourage people to vote “YES” on Nov. 3.
