The barn’s contents, 5-7,000 bales of hay and some farm machinery, were a total loss. Mr. Cannon estimated the damage as at least $50,000. Firefighters from Castleton, Washington, Sperryville, Amissville and Salem fought the blaze all night, but were hampered in their efforts by lack of adequate water supply.
