Special events Friday include an address by Dr. A. E. Dick Howard of the University of Virginia. Dr. W. R. Nelson, head of the political science department at JMU win make opening remarks.
A flute, bassoon and piano performance by the JMU faculty trio Attelage will take place at 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on the back patio, and the Madison Brass will perform at 3 p.m. on the front porch.
JMU students will serve as tour guides for the historic home during the two-day celebration. The house will be open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days.
The craft fair will run from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. both days. Ongoing exhibits during the two-day celebration will include three media shows: “A More Perfect Union,” “James Madison and a New Union” and “Portraits.” “Children’s View of the Constitution” will feature the art work of fourth graders from throughout the Commonwealth. The exhibit, located on the second floor of the mansion, was arranged in cooperation with the Virginia Art Education Association.
All events are free and open to the public.
Passenger cars traveling to Montpelier should use the main entrance located four miles south of Orange on Va. Route 20. All buses should use the west gate entrance by taking Va. Route 231 from the Gordonsville circle and following signs to Montpelier.
