These were some of the points i nade during a slide presentation i :alled “We, the People” presented at ;he September meeting of the Culpeper Minute Men Chapter of the National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution. The presentor was Helen Blackwell of Arlington, who is Chairman of the Virginia Eagle Forum, a national lobby group formed by Phyllis Schlafly. The Forum took as its project the prepara- s tion of this detailed set of slides showing the reasons why the Constitution was necessary and why it has lasted for 200 years. It consists of 60 color slides of the Constitution and historic places, people and events. It has a carefully researched script which is narrated along with the slides.
Mrs. Blackwell, who is a native of Louisiana, but has her DAR ancestry in Rockbridge County, Virginia, now lives in Arlington and also has a weekend home in Criglersville in Madison County. She explained how the ‘We, the People” slide program focuses on these important aspects of the constitution:
Why the Constition is the fountainhead of our great religious, political and economic liberties;
How the Constitution developed from the Declaration of Independence and articles of the Confederation;
Who were the writers of the Constitution and what ideas they brought to Philadelphia that hot summer in 1787?;
What are the basic principles embodied in the Constitution, such as the sovereignty of “We, the People” anfWhe Separation of Powers;
