Pancake supper at Trinity Church
A Shrove Tuesday pancake supper will be served Tuesday, Feb. 16 at Trinity Episcopal Church. Pancakes will be served from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in Stewart Hall. The supper is sponsored annually by the Trinity Church chapter of the Brotherhood of St. Andrew. Tickets, $3 for adults and $2 for children, will be available at the door. The proceeds will be used for the chapter’s outreach projects in the community.
Shrove Tuesday pancake suppers were first held in churches in the 15th century in Europe. The purpose was to use the final day of the Mardi Gras season as a last day of merriment preceding the quiet and discipline of the season of Lent. The serving of pancakes came about through housewives’ desire to use up all surplus food that could not be kept over the 40-day period of abstinence during Lent.
Barbecue dinner planned
A barbecue dinner will be held at Rappahannock County Elementary School on Wednesday, March 2 to benefit the annual seventhgrade class trip to Williamsburg, Jamestown and Richmond. Carryout service will also be available. Serving time will be 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. For additional information call Mrs. Lynne Baines at 675-3253.
