,n>i Branches bend and may break .under a deep snow. Shrubs with > flexible stems usually spring back /ikito their proper shape as the weeks pass, while the brittle shrubs do not. ;; Expect more lasting injury in the upright stems of tall, narrow junipers, yews, and arborvitaes. Their vertical symmetry may be lost when erect branches become permanently bent. Such damage is corrected by pruning or tying the disfigured branches in place.

When a branch breaks, cut it ;iback to a vigorous bud or twig. Ex* tensive damage may require removing the whole branch.

Trees may drop branches, leaving a jagged stub that is best removed at the trunk. Torn bark is often found where branches suc[ pymb to the weight of wet snow, and trimming it away aids the healing process. Injuries may be painted l^with a tree wound dressing, but this practice is cosmetic, not therapeutic, ;juid research indicates it can be detrimental.

3/4 cup cashew nuts - 1 Tbsp. curry powder '•‘ir Partially freeze beef; slice across ->the grain into thin bite-size strips; '<eet aside. In small bowl, combine 'J Water, cornstarch, bouillon and Jtiugar; set aside. Heat wok or large - skillet over high heat. Add oil. Stirfry garlic and ginger for 30 seconds; add onion and stir-fry 1 minute. Add cucumber and nuts; stir-fry 1 to 2 minutes or until nuts are golden. Rei-jnove onion, cucumber and nuts and set aside.

Add curry powder to pan; stirfry 15 seconds or until curry is blended with oil. Add half the beef to >ipan (add more oil, if necessary). Stir-fry 2 to 3 minutes or until ,j browned. Remove and set aside. Add remaing beef and stir-fry 2 to 3 ^minutes. Return all beef to pan. Stir bouillon mixture and add to pan. Cook and stir until thickeped and bubbly. Stir in onion, cucumber and nuts. Cover and cook 1 minute. Add ^tomato and heat through. Makes 4 to 6 servings, bn
