| Choral Society, attended the three3 day intensive Church Music Seminar 1 at Furman University, Greenville, | S.C. The workshops featured the € compositions and personal lead2 ership of the noted British composer 2 John Rutter. Educated in the CamJ
bridge tradition, Mr. Rutter has attracted worldwide recognition in recent years as a composer, arranger and conductor.
His “Requiem,” written in 1985, will be performed by the CulpeperPiedmont Choral Society in its annual spring concert on Friday, May 13. For the best balance of voices there are still a few openings for experienced tenors and basses. Rehearsals are held on Mondays, 7:30 p.m. at the Precious Blood Catholic Church, 401 N. Main St., Culpeper. The final date for acceptance of new members will be Feb. 22.
Now in its 21st year, the Choral society has more than doubled in size and its semi-annual concerts of many R music styles are always free and 3 open to the public. In order to per5 form major works in the manner in whjch the composers intended, paid instrumentalists are often employed.
Funding for these and the numerous other concert expenses is by ! singers’ membership dues, business [ advertisings in spring concert programs, free-will donations from its audiences and the generosity of patrons.
